It's our 10th Anniversary as a community library this October.  A series of celebratory events are planned throughout the year incl. our annual scarecrow trail, a special 10th birthday raffle and a tea party for volunteers, past and present in October.

**Great News** We are thrilled to annouce that we have raised over £2,000 from the 2025 Rothley village scarecrow trail! many thanks to all of our volunteers and those that made scarecrows, without you we wouldn't have had an event! The winner was the flamboyant display of 'Mr Men' on Hallfields Lane, and the close runner up was the 'Three Pigs and the Wolf' on Badgers Bank which was executed in beautiful detail. Photos of all scarecrows will be uploaded to our photo gallery shortly.

Easyfundraising! it's easy to sign up, you just have to nominate us as your chosen charity, the online retailer then pays a small % of items purchased to us. Most major retailers take part. For more information you can use this link    How it Works | Easyfundraising

Volunteers

Volunteer Team Members

In October 2025 it will be our tenth anniversary as a community ran library. This is a huge accolade to all of the volunteers past and present that have volunteered their time and effort. One thing is for certain - we would not be able to operate or open without our volunteers and new people are always needed to help at the Library. You don't have to make a weekly commitment, you can just sign up when you are available. So far we haven't had to close, but it's been close! If you'd like to know more, please get in touch. Training is available for all new volunteers. After initial training you can have as much practice as you want with more experienced members of the team guiding you until you feel ready to start signing up on the rota.

We have three main jobs available at each opening time; two volunteers working on the counter and the third job is working on the floor of the Library managing stock and shelving, amongst other jobs. We encourage volunteers to work as a team and make any decisions needed during the session together. If further support is needed with the library services, we are well supported by our hub library in Loughborough.

Support Groups

If volunteering during library opening hours is not something you can do, may be you could consider getting involved with one of our support groups that work together on special aspects of the Library. For example we have a displays group and a book stock group who carefully manage the selection of books we have on offer at the Library! We are currently, especially looking for volunteers that might enjoy reading stories to a group of children on a regular basis.

We are always open to setting up other support groups which will assist in the running of the Library, in particular the following would be of great value :

Events - Planning and organising events, such as book sales, talks etc, to raise money for day-to-day running and special projects.
Finances and management - Supporting the treasurer in work on reports and funding bids, and planning AGMs etc.
Communications and publicity - Help with the website, Facebook, putting up posters, press releases etc.

Groups always meet at times convenient to their members, and we aim to have at least one Trustee attached to each support group. The more help there is, the easier it will be to keep the Library vibrant, relevant to the community and open!
