About Rothley Community Library

The story so far

On 15th October 2015, Rothley Community Library opened its doors for the first time as a library run completely by volunteers!

In the region of 30 people now volunteer at the Library on a regular basis, manning the desk and keeping the Library in good running order. Another 20 or so volunteers work behind the scenes in other ways, with displays, health and safety requirements, building maintenance, computer support, publicity, running library groups and/or being a trustee.

Community led

Membership of the library is growing every month, likewise its profile in the community with the help of various initiatives championed by our volunteers such as the under 5s story time sessions, partnership working with the local primary school and supporting community initiatives like Sustainable Rothley and the Good Neighbour Scheme.

Library Services

The Library has many services which can be accessed by the community including a photocopier, computers, projector and wall screen, room hire, not forgetting toilets which are available for public use during opening hours.

A colourful history

Marion Vincent has written a short history of the library, which includes lots of moves and the time when it burnt down...You can download it here.
