Can you help the library out?

We could do with some more donations of books for the Book and Plant Sale on June 10. Books in advance got the library, plants on the day.

Any old Lego? Or just a block to give? Bring to the library or to the book sale. More news on this to come…

 Do you have any recent travel guides you don’t need? We’re trying to extend and update our collection.

 Come along to Spruce up Sunday - June 4, 10-12. Help us spruce up before the sale. Friendly company, cleaning and tidying.

 Interested in putting on events? Organisers and helpers needed.

Events this month

 Book and plant sale: Saturday 10 June, 10-1. Refreshments, good books at good prices. Excellent range of greeting cards.

Live show: Cloaks, by Alison Dunne at the library. Friday 30 June, 7pm. ‘Hilarious, heart-warming theatre’. Tickets at the library or at Dolce & Verde. £10/£9 concessions in advance. £11/£10 on the door. Very few tickets available - get yours now, they’re on public sale now and there’s a lot of interest!

Film Club: Friday June 16. Ethel And Earnest, with Jim Broadbent, Brenda Blethyn and Luke Treadaway (2016). This hand-drawn animated film, based on the award winning graphic novel by Raymond Briggs, is an intimate and affectionate depiction of the life and times of his parents, two ordinary Londoners living through extraordinary events. Tickets £5/£4.50. Free refreshments.

Chess Club: Wednesday 31 May 2-5pm. Play or learn.

Spruce up Sunday: Sunday 4 June, 10-12. Come and help keep the library looking great.

Computer Support Digital Champions: Thursday 1 and 15 June, 10-12. With Age UK. Come along for help with computers, smartphones and tablets.

Storytime for Under 5s:  Tuesday 6 and Friday 16 June 9.30-10.15am. Everyone’s welcome.

Community Book Group. Wednesday 28 June,7.15-8.15pm. Exposure by Helen Dunmore. In the hands of the inaugural Orange Prize winner, the business of spooks is hatched in down-at-heel university digs and conducted amid north London domesticity. ‘Spies aren’t cloak-and-dagger types at all, not in real life,’ she says. ‘They’re dull as ditchwater.’ Everyone’s welcome, whether you’ve read the book or not! We’ll be choosing books for the next season, so bring your ideas along.

Library nights. Become a Dementia Friend: Tuesday 6 June 7-8pm Dementia Friends gives people an understanding of dementia and the small things you can do that make a difference. Talk by Wendy Ferguson.

Summer Reading Challenge

Animal Agents is the theme for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, which will run from Saturday 8th July till Saturday 9th September in all Leicestershire libraries. At Rothley we will have  special event on Saturday 8th July to launch the scheme and other activities will be put on during the summer like treasure hunts and competitions.

Children will be given a folder special smelly cards a medal and certificate all for just making THREE visits to their library throughout the summer reading a minimum of just SIX books.

The whole idea is to keep children reading and have some fun.
