New team members

Several new members have joined the team recently, and new people are always needed to help at the library. You don't have to make a weekly commitment, you can just sign up when you're available. So far we haven't had to close, but it's been close! So if you think you'd like to get involved, and if you'd like to know more, get in touch.

 We have three main jobs available at each opening time; two working both in front of the counter managing the stock and behind the counter discharging and checking out books.  The third job is working on the floor of the library managing stock and shelving amongst other jobs.  We try to have three people at each opening time and the three work the time together as a team, making any decisions needed. We are supported by our hub library in Loughborough who are ready to help us when we need it.

Training is available for everyone starting.  After initial training you can have as much practice as you want  with more experienced members of the team guiding you until you feel ready to start signing up on the rota.  

You can sign up to opening times that suit you and your commitments, through the computer based system we used called '3 Rings'.

Sub-groups: There are already several subgroups who work together on special aspects of the library – the displays group, the under-5s Story time team, who prepare the twice monthly sessions for the youngest members of the library, which include stories, song and rhymes and craft activities;

the day to day running of the library group who organise how the library is run for book loans, training, volunteer rota etc.and the book stock group who select books for us to buy to enhance and widen the selection of books we have. 

We’d also like to set up other sub-groups which will be open to people interested in specific areas of the library’s work:

  1. Events, including Film Club, and fund-raising:

            Planning and organising events, such as book sales, talks etc, to raise money for day-to-day running and                 special projects.

  2. Finances and management.

            Supporting the treasurer in work on reports and funding bids, and planning AGMs etc.

  3. Communications and publicity.

            Promoting the library and library events through the website, Facebook, putting up posters, press                           releases etc.

These groups will meet at times convenient to their members, and will report to the Board about any decisions. There will be at least one trustee attached to each subgroup. Further subgroups may be formed if there is a need. Please come and support the library – the more of us there are, the easier it will be!
