Accessibility at Rothley Community Library

We are committed to making our library and website welcoming and accessible to everyone.

Our Commitment

Rothley Community Library is committed to ensuring that both our physical premises and our website are accessible to all members of our community, including people with disabilities. We continuously review and improve our accessibility provision.

Website Accessibility

This website has been designed to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. We have aimed to achieve the following:

  • All pages use semantic HTML to aid screen reader navigation.
  • All images include descriptive alternative text.
  • Colour contrast ratios meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
  • The site can be navigated using a keyboard alone.
  • A "Skip to main content" link is provided at the top of every page.
  • Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
  • Forms include clearly labelled fields and helpful error messages.
  • All pages include a descriptive page title.

We are aware that some older content or third-party embeds (such as Google Maps) may not fully meet these standards. We are working to address known issues.

Known Limitations

  • The embedded Google Maps iframe on our Contact page may not be fully accessible to screen reader users. We provide our full address as text on the same page.
  • Some older PDF documents linked from the site may not be fully screen reader accessible. Please contact us and we will provide the information in an alternative format.

Physical Access

We want everyone to be able to visit and enjoy our library. The following facilities are available at our premises on Mountsorrel Lane:

  • Step-free access to the main entrance.
  • Wide aisles suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs or mobility aids.
  • Accessible seating available throughout the library.
  • Accessible toilet facilities available for public use during opening hours.
  • Good natural and artificial lighting throughout.
  • Friendly volunteers always on hand to assist you.

We can provide information in alternative formats on request, including:

  • Large print
  • Audio format
  • Easy Read
  • Alternative languages (where possible)

We also stock a range of large-print books and audiobooks. Ask one of our volunteers for help finding something suitable.
